Initially launched in 2016 as a partnership between the Mayor’s Office and NYCEDC, the CleaNYC program is a supplementary sanitation initiative for heavily trafficked areas across the five boroughs of New York City. The program offers sidewalk cleanup and sweeping for more than 10 communities across the five boroughs.
As of 2023, the Department of Sanitation leads this program. To date, the CleaNYC program has cleaned more than 3,000 miles of City streets, picked up more than 17,000 trash bags, and removed more than 200,000 pounds of debris. The CleaNYC program remains committed to creating welcoming, vibrant communities and business districts.
