NEW YORK, NY—New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) President & CEO Andrew Kimball released the following statement last night after Manhattan Community Board 6 voted in favor of both the Science Park and Research Campus (SPARC) Kips Bay and Innovation East projects, signaling another key milestone in the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) process for these two generational life sciences developments:

“NYCEDC applauds Community Board 6 for their support of these two transformational projects, and we look forward to working with the Manhattan Borough President, City Planning Commission, and City Council going forward,” said NYCEDC President & CEO Andrew Kimball. “SPARC Kips Bay is a first-of-its-kind innovation and career education hub including nearly two million square feet of modern academic, public health, and life sciences space alongside new open space and a rebuilt pedestrian bridge over the FDR Drive. SPARC is expected to generate approximately $42 billion in economic impact over the next 30 years, create over 15,000 jobs including 12,000 union construction jobs and 3,100 permanent jobs, and establish a pipeline from New York City Public Schools and the City University of New York (CUNY) to family-supporting careers in the growing life sciences and health care sectors. Across First Avenue, Innovation East will replace the former Public Health Lab with half a million square feet of state-of-the-art life sciences labs, ground-floor retail, and partnerships with schools and nonprofits to build career pathways.”
