New York Yankees 2023 Home Games Expected to Generate $579 Million in Economic Impact

New York Mets 2023 Home Games Expected to Generate Over $338 Million in Economic Impact

NEW YORK, NY—Today, New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) announced that the 2023 Major League Baseball home games for the New York Yankees and New York Mets will generate an estimated $917 million in economic impact for New York City – stimulating local businesses, creating jobs and economic opportunity for New Yorkers across the city, and continuing to drive the city’s economic recovery. The New York Yankees are expected to generate an economic impact of $579 million over the course of the 2023 regular season, while the New York Mets are expected to generate $338 million.

“I’ve said that 2023 is going to be our ‘Aaron Judge’ year, and that includes continuing to build a booming economy that benefits all New Yorkers,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. “We’ve already surpassed 4 million private sector jobs in the city, nearly hitting the all time record numbers set before the pandemic. And with more than $900 million in economic impact projected from this year’s Yankees and Mets’ baseball seasons, we are well on our way to creating even more good paying jobs for New Yorkers in sporting, hospitality, tourism, transportation, and so much more.”

“Baseball is back in New York City, and with that comes a huge boom to our city’s economy,” said NYCEDC President and CEO Andrew Kimball. “These impacts spread far and wide across our city – from local businesses to the job opportunities created, baseball season is a win-win for New York City. I am looking forward to a successful season for both teams and the economic benefits to our great city that come with it.”

This analysis accounts for direct impacts from visitor spending, including tickets, concessions, merchandise, transportation, and lodging (for some out of town visitors). It also accounts for stadium employee payrolls and indirect impacts from additional spending by stadium companies and employees.

The economic impact of Yankees home games is estimated to be higher than the economic impact of Mets homes games because of higher ticket prices and higher expected attendance. While prices are based on current pricing for the 2023 season, expected attendance is based on historical averages for a normal season and should not be viewed as a projection of a team’s performance in 2023.
