Our External Affairs division helps connect NYCEDC with the public. Through the Government & Community Relations, Marketing, and Public Affairs departments, External Affairs builds relationships with communities and stakeholders, and promotes and shares the work we do for the benefit of New York City.

Government & Community Relations

The Government & Community Relations team engages with community members, elected officials, and other stakeholders across the five boroughs to share information and build support for NYCEDC’s work. Government & Community Relations works with departments across the organization to:

  • Cultivate external relationships and develop public engagement to share how NYCEDC’s work could benefit New Yorkers
  • Align NYCEDC’s work and priorities with the goals and objectives of the communities we serve
  • Communicate with City partners including City Hall, City agencies, elected officials, and other key stakeholders to build support for NYCEDC’s economic development agenda


The Marketing team promotes both NYCEDC’s work and New York City as the premier place to do business. We also support City Hall and various City agency initiatives. Our efforts include:

  • Building strategic marketing and integrated media plans for projects such as industry and neighborhood initiatives
  • Advertising RFPs and other opportunities to work on City projects
  • Developing branding guidelines and maintaining and other NYCEDC-related websites
  • Designing, creating and producing print, digital and video marketing materials to support and promote projects, programs, initiatives, events, and NYCEDC-managed properties

Public Affairs

The Public Affairs team oversees all external messaging involving NYCEDC. In collaboration with the Office of the Mayor and all departments at NYCEDC, Public Affairs advances the City’s economic development work by stewarding an overall organization-wide narrative while promoting NYCEDC projects and initiatives to media outlets, civic organizations, and the public at large. We:

  • Cultivate and manage NYCEDC’s relationship with members of the media
  • Adapt and implement a comprehensive communications strategy
  • Write press releases, media statements, letters to the editor, and op-ed columns
  • Manage all speeches and public events involving NYCEDC, including public remarks and testimony before legislative bodies
