A world-class recreational center at Prospect Park

Recreation All Year Round

Looking for outdoor recreation in any season? Look no further than the LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Brooklyn’s historic Prospect Park.

NYCEDC led the $74M construction and redevelopment of the rink, in partnership with NYC Parks and the Prospect Park Alliance. The new LeFrak Center features year-round amenities, including:

  • Two ice skating rinks during the winter months: an open-air rink, as well as a covered hockey rink to accommodate winter skating sports such as hockey and curling
  • A water splash pad for adults and children, in addition to a roller skating rink during the warmer months
  • Ice skating instruction
  • A kitchen and café
  • A gift shop
  • Party rooms and educational classrooms

Whether you’re looking to take your skating skills to the next level, throw a party, or host a corporate event, the Lefrak Center at Lakeside has it all.

Restoring a Community Highlight

In 1961, the original Wollman Rink was opened to the public, offering a place for members of the community to skate. By the early 2000s, however, the rink was deteriorating and clearly needed to be replaced.

Built on the site of the old Wollman Rink, the new LeFrak Center replaces the single ice rink with more modern year-round recreational opportunities, creates business opportunities for concessionaires, and better integrates the rink into Prospect Park’s historic landscape.
