De Blasio Administration Statements on Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises Approval of Tech Training Center

Aug 02 2018

Following the City Council Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises' Approval of the Tech Training Center, the de Blasio Administration Released the Following Statements:

“The Tech Training Center is a great example of smart land use policy in New York City. This state-of-the-art facility will activate prime real estate in Manhattan and will provide space for growing tech companies – co-located with space for workforce training providers and digital educators, providing real-time connections for thousands of New Yorkers to access jobs at the companies that will help shape the future of the city. Our tech sector must reflect the diversity that defines this city and expand economic growth and opportunity for all New Yorkers. I thank Speaker Johnson, Council Member Rivera and the entire City Council for their partnership,” said Alicia Glen, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development.

“The Tech Training Center will move the needle on diversity in tech—creating accessible pathways, while supporting growing tech companies. Today’s vote brings this transformative project one step closer to being reality, ensuring that modern training and good-paying job opportunities are available in the core of Manhattan. We thank Council Speaker Corey Johnson and Council Member Rivera for being such steadfast advocates for New Yorkers, and helping to deliver a project that will truly change lives” said NYCEDC President and CEO James Patchett.
