Meet the NYC Startup Internship Alumni: Femi Jordan

I’m originally from Brooklyn, New York, and I recently graduated from Baruch College in May 2025 with a BBA in Marketing Management. This summer, I’m interning at ANI as their Social Media and Digital Marketing Intern. ANI is a culture-forward wellness company that partners with employers to bring arts, culture, and creative experiences into the workplace.

A typical day for me starts with reviewing my deliverables for the week and prioritizing what needs to get done. I spend a lot of time in Canva designing social media posts, and I’m responsible for writing and editing our weekly newsletter and blog posts. My week also includes meetings with the CEO, which have been incredibly helpful for receiving feedback and staying aligned with ANI’s goals.

Throughout this internship, I’ve really honed my social media marketing skills and taken the initiative to learn platform-specific strategies, especially since I manage content for Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. I’ve also started learning about SEO to better support the blog and improve our content visibility online. These skills are all helping me become more confident in my ability to tell compelling brand stories.

With my degree, I hope to pursue a career in branding, ideally as a brand strategist, creative director, product marketer, or even in public relations. I’d love to eventually move out of New York, but I am open to roles in NYC that will allow me to keep growing and learning.

This internship has been such an eye-opening experience. It’s helped me understand what I enjoy most about marketing and what kind of work environment I thrive in. It’s also motivated me to lock in on my own content. Outside of work, I’m a cooking content creator on Instagram and TikTok (@_cookwithfemi), and being in a creative, entrepreneurial environment like ANI has inspired me to take that more seriously and start treating it like a business.

If you’re a student in NYC thinking about applying to a program like this, do it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, take initiative, or pitch your ideas. The more you put in, the more you’ll get out of it. And if you’re unsure about what you want to do long-term, that’s okay, this kind of opportunity will help you figure it out.
