The City of New York plays a powerful role in paving the way to decarbonize the built environment, facilitating bold policies, and operating pilot programs to overcome implementation challenges in tangible ways.

As part of the City’s decarbonization efforts, NYCEDC runs Climate Innovation Studios, a technical assistance program to accelerate the deployment of climate tech solutions. Climate Innovation Studios supports regulatory wayfinding for climate tech projects in NYC. The program provides catalytic projects with technical assistance, grants, and access to DOB, FDNY, and industry experts to accelerate project delivery, facilitate new partnerships, and drive policy change.

There are three studios currently underway:

The Mass Timber Studio accelerates the deployment of mass timber, an engineered wood product that is a low-carbon construction material alternative to concrete and steel.

The Resilient Energy Studio catalyzes the safe deployment of battery energy storage systems by equipping startups with the technical and regulatory support needed to navigate real-world deployment challenges.

The Urban Transportation Studio, in partnership with NYC DOT, advances new transportation and mobility solutions that leverage e-micromobility, electric vehicle (EV) charging, and AI.
