Bronx Point
Transforming an underutilized waterfront site into a mixed-use development offering jobs, housing, and open space.
Investing in the South Bronx
The Bronx Point project in the Lower Concourse neighborhood of the South Bronx will redevelop a long-vacant site along the Harlem River to bring new open space, permanent jobs, cultural facilities, and affordable housing to the community, as well as infrastructure upgrades to improve pedestrian safety. The project will open the waterfront to the community while providing Lower Concourse with the infrastructure necessary to support growth.

Bronx Point is a tremendous step forward for our borough. Not only will this project create much-needed affordable housing units, it will activate underutilized space, open up more waterfront to public access, create new public spaces and retail amenities for community use and, finally, bring the Universal Hip Hop Museum to its rightful location in the birthplace of hip hop, The Bronx.
New Cultural and Recreational Opportunities
We’re also investing in a variety of new cultural and recreational offerings for the community, including:
- A new waterfront esplanade along the Harlem River
- A dynamic public plaza along Exterior Street
- Over 10,000 square feet of retail space
- The first and only brick and mortar location of the Universal Hip Hop Museum
In addition to the nearly $200M in infrastructure, the City will invest in improving the ballfields in Franz Sigel Park and a new 572-seat school. These, in conjunction with the hundreds of permanently affordable housing units, thousands of jobs, new community facility, and commercial and cultural facilities, denotes a major achievement for the residents of the South Bronx.
How We Got Here
The development is part of a $194 million infrastructure investment that the mayor announced at the 2015 State of the City address. In September 2017, the City announced a plan to transform the long-vacant site located along the Harlem River waterfront into Bronx Point.
The design of the project has included a two-year community process led by NYCEDC involving interactive workshops to engage the local community in prioritizing the area’s needs.
